September 30 – October 01, 2005 Seminar Update

Wow! I cannot believe that the Dr. Esco Buff Seminar & Educational Equine Event on “How to Successfully Treat the Foundered Horse” and “Limb Length Disparity” is now history! Everyone came away from this event having learned something new. It was a great success! I received many positive comments and no one was disappointed.

We had attendees not only from around CO, but also from CA, MI, UT, AR, AZ, and WY. Those AZ boys were really attentive to all that was going on. They said that they don’t get much of this kind of event in their area. Well, maybe I can arrange it so they can.

Figure 2 Before being shod, seminar attendees, Mrs. Brink (owner of horse), Jason Bell, Jack Evers, (farrier in tee shirt), Denise Capps, and a horse owner, check out limb length disparities on this horse.

The classroom lectures were held in the morning and the live demonstrations were held in the afternoon. Everyone was ready and eager each day to learn.

To all of you that attended this event, it was a real pleasure meeting you and having the opportunity to provide a quality Educational Equine Event for you. To all of you that were unable to attend this event, I am in the planning stages for an Educational Equine Event in May.

If you have suggestions for future events, please send them to carla@farrierappointmentserviceteam.com

I want to again thank the following sponsors for helping to make this event possible!

RESPONSIBILITY vs. Unreliability
Knowing and doing what is expected of me
Aspects of Responsibility
  • Keep your promises.
  • Do not make excuses.
  • Do all your work to the best of your ability.
  • Make things right when you do wrong.
  • Know your duty and do your duty.

WHOEVER INC.
Once upon a time, four brothers got jobs at Whoever Incorporated. Their names were Somebody, Everybody, Nobody, and Anybody.

Whenever details came along that weren’t in Somebody’s job description, he assumed it was Everybody’s job. “Besides,” Somebody thought, “Anybody could do it.”

Everybody was sure Somebody would do it because Anybody could do it, but Nobody did it.

Everybody got angry because Somebody should have done it, and Somebody blamed Everybody because it was Everybody’s job.

Thus, Everybody blamed Somebody, and Somebody Blamed Everybody, but Nobody did what Anybody could have done in the first place.

Workplaces and homes have tasks that nobody likes to do. One key to harmony and efficiency lies in the willingness of somebody to take responsibility, even when it seems easier to leave it for somebody else.

In the shoeing and horse industry, the farrier, horse owner, and veterinarian need to know what their responsibility is towards the soundness of each horse in their care. Farriers, veterinarians, and horse owners need to communicate to each other what role of the horse’s care is their responsibility.

FITNESS TIP…Common Cold
  • Throat begins to get sore. You start to feel chilled and then warm. Your nose gets congested. Your body aches and your energy begins to drain. Diagnosis? “acute coryza,” otherwise known as the common cold.
  • Prevent the common cold by getting proper rest, eating right, drinking enough water, staying warm enough, exercising a few times a week, and stay away from stress. Also, take an over the counter medication called “Airborne.” Created by a teacher, this medication can be taken as a preventative if you think you will be in a situation that will expose you to flu and colds such as crowded rooms, air travel, kids getting sick, etc. (make sure to consult with a physician or pharmacist before taking any medication, especially if you are already taking medication)
  • Already sick? Two supplements that have been shown to speed up the recovery from a cold are Vitamin C and Zinc. Taking high dosages of Vitamin c, 1-2000 mg 3 times a day, helps to shorten the duration of the common cold. Zinc has also been shown to speed up the recovery of a cold by blocking viruses from multiplying. (make sure to consult with a physician or pharmacist before taking any medication, especially if you are already taking medication)
  • Drink lots of water and other liquids to flush out toxins. Stay away from mucus producing foods like dairy and sugar. Hot lemon drinks, hot teas, garlic, onion and horseradish reduce mucous production. Garlic, raw, also has excellent anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties.
  • Consult your doctor if your symptoms persist beyond two weeks or get worse.
